Trauma can come from anywhere, whether it be a car accident, abuse in childhood, domestic violence, or even managing chronic illness, or extreme stress. Our bodies are designed to survive, but what happens after it’s all said and done?
You may be struggling with low mood, extreme anxiety, racing thoughts, no motivation to do the things you want, anger, or even crying spells. Whether you’ve been in therapy for years or just starting out, trauma intensives can help you jumpstart the work you want to put into yourself.
Trauma Intensives
What are Trauma Intensives?
A set of sessions that are “built-for-you” and allow for a more intensive and deeper approach than traditional talk therapy. Trauma intensives allow for more time and space to process and “clear out” the things that are effecting your life due to extended session timing and intentionally scheduled sessions that are preferably scheduled back to back.
What techniques are used?
Trauma intensives use a range of techniques that utilize eye-movement therapy, Internal Family Systems, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and other approaches that honor lived experiences while also emphasizing techniques that are clinically shown to improve symptoms for the long term and not just relief in the here and now.
You’ll be sent a packet that seeks to deeper understand your background, current symptoms, goals, and how you interact with life due to trauma, abuse, chronic mental or physical illness, etc. We will work together to decide the correct amount of sessions, length of time, and desired goals. There is a minimum of 4 sessions and each session ranges from 2-3 hours. During those hours, there will be a treatment plan that follows the listed goals and desires and will include multiple therapeutic approaches to thoroughly address everything that was listed. All sessions are done in person.
What is the process of an Intensive?
Who is a good candidate for
Trauma Intensives?
Trauma Intensives serves those who have experienced trauma which includes but is not limited to:
Sexual abuse, physical abuse, religious abuse, medical complications, chronic medical needs or chronic illness, car accidents, loss of loved ones, natural disasters, workplace violence, deployments, separated families, neglect, being a caregiver to chronically ill or end of life, witnessing violence, and much more.
Anyone who is motivated for change.
The Benefits
Trauma Intensives have the ability to shorten your overall time in therapy or not need regularly scheduled appointments after completing intensives. While none of us in the therapy world can make hard and fast promises, there is a reason intensive approaches and pre-packaged care plans are becoming more common. We are seeing more immediate relief for our clients and long term healing from the traumas they have experienced.
Therapy Intensives also have the ability to meet more people where they are at. Not everyone wants to meet every week and engage in traditional talk therapy, those people tend to more often be men, veterans, police officers, EMS, firefighters, medical professionals, or those who overall tend to subscribe to the “don’t talk about it” approach to healing. If you fall within those categories, you can access relief in ways that better align with who you are as a person.
